On the 25th May, 2018, the EU’s GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) comes into force – and it will affect every company that holds and processes data on EU nationals – both within the EU and anywhere else in the world. With the international nature of the broadcast and media industry, this means that the vast majority of IABM member companies will need to comply with the GDPR. Penalties for non-compliance can be severe – up to €20 million or 4% of a company’s worldwide turnover for serious breaches.
In this webinar, Nicola Barden, Associate Solicitor at Harbottle & Lewis LLP, will explain the provisions of the GDPR, how they are different from – and stronger than – existing data protection laws, and how they will affect the way companies store and process personal data. Nicola will then suggest ten steps companies need to take – starting now – to be compliant when the new regulation comes into force in May 2018.
